The 2nd GI-CoRE GSQ, GSB, & IGM Joint Symposium was held on August 7 and 8, 2018. This year’s symposium was the 6th GSQ and the 2nd GSB Symposium. On the morning of the first day we invited Prof. Hiroshi Ishii, an Associate Director of the Media Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), as a special guest speaker as a part of events related to Hokkaido’s 150th Anniversary. Besides Prof. Ishii, Prof. Lei Xing of Stanford University and Prof. Satoshi Maeda of Hokkaido University gave engaging talks on their research. Panel discussion on their research theories was also conducted among Prof. Ishii and faculties of Stanford University, University of Technology Sydney, and Hokkaido University. In the GSQ & IGM session held on the second day, Prof. Quynh-Thu Le, Prof. Amato Giaccia, and Prof. Daniel Chang from Stanford University as well as speakers from Hokkaido University introduced their leading-edge research on quantum, biology, and medicine. Talks at the symposium were a part of the GI-CoRE Summer School for Medical Physics/Hokkaido Summer Institute (HSI) -Medical Physics School, and its participants gained a broad range of knowledge through this event. This two-day symposium attracted more than 380 participants and compelling talks were followed by lively question and answer sessions.
