On July 10-11, 2017, the GI-CoRE GSQ, GSB & IGM Joint Symposium was held at Special Conference Room, Faculty of Medicine, Hokkaido University. The GSQ has been organizing international symposium every year since 2014 but this 5th symposium covered a wider range of topics, including “Quantum, Informatics, Biology and Medicine”. Collaborating with the Global Station of Big Data and Cybersecurity, Institute of Genetic Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, Faculty of Engineering and Hokkaido University Hospital, this symposium successfully marked the beginning of the interdisciplinary “Quantum Medicine” study at Hokkaido University. In addition to distinguished experts from Hokkaido University, the symposium involved world-leading researchers from Stanford University, the University of Technology Sydney, Osaka University, and the National Institutes for Quantum and Radiological and Technology. As this symposium was also held as part of lectures in the Graduate School of Biomedical Science and Engineering, not only researchers but many graduate students appreciated the presentations. During the two days of the symposium, 250 participants attended in total.
