【Report】2022 GCB Summer Schools have completed successfully

The 5th GCB Summer School in Molecular Biomedical Engineering and Biophysics and the 9th GCB Summer School in Medical Physics were held jointly with the Department of Radiation Oncology of Stanford University over five days from Monday, August 22 to Friday, August 26. This year, with the cooperation of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, each lecture room was equipped with facilities, and "high-flex classes" were conducted and live-streamed for the overseas attendees.

We welcomed three lecturers from Stanford University, one from Boğaziçi University, Kyoto University, and the National Institute of Quantum Science and Technology (NIST). From Hokkaido University, our faculty members from the Graduate Schools of Medicine, Engineering, Health Sciences, Dentistry, Science, Hokkaido University Hospital, Isotope Center, and Veterinary Medical School gave lectures in English.

Each Summer School incorporated a well-balanced program of comprehensive lectures covering fundamentals, theory, applied research, practical training, and demonstrations. In addition to lecture-style classes, face-to-face participants had a chance to experience on-site practical training and facility tours. On the other hand, online participants observed the pre-recoreded demonstrations and virtual facility tours to experience cutting-edge technology. Also we had some participants present their own research, which deepened exchanges for their research.

As a result of rigorous selection by the Center's faculty, a record number of 29 countries, including Egypt, Romania, Venezuela, Mexico, France, Yemen, and other first-time participants, participated in the Medical Physics Summer School (28 students) and the Molecular Biomedical Engineering Summer School (24 students). The number of participants was 28 for the Medical Physics Summer School and 24 for the Molecular Biomedical Engineering Summer School. Based on the feedback from the participants, we plan to brush up the content and hold this summer school again in the next fiscal year.

So, we hope you keep connected with us.
