【Call for Participants】Join Our 2026 Summer Schools in Sapporo, Japan
Visit us at Hokkaido University this summer [August 3 - 7, 2026]
We are pleased to announce that the Global Center for Biomedical Science and Engineering (GCB) is offering a great opportunity for graduate students and early career researchers to participate in “the 13th GCB Summer School for Medical Physics” or “the 9th GCB Summer School for Molecular Biomedical Science and Diagnosis”, on-site at Hokkaido University this summer.

The 13th GCB Summer School for Medical Physics:
This school will cover the basics of medical physics, particle therapy, RTRT, as well as providing practical trainings for Linac, proton beam therapy and planning system, and will also look at current topics and cutting-edge technologies in medical physics.
The 9th GCB Summer School for Molecular Biomedical Science and Diagnosis:
This school will offer a comprehensive series of lectures on the basics of biomedical science and engineering including radiation molecular biology, molecular imaging, applied studies, experimental methods and more, as well as hands-on training in MRI, nuclear medicine, and biology.

Date: Monday, August 3 – Friday, August 7, 2026
Place: School of Medicine, Hokkaido University
Programs: Currently in preparation (Last year’s programs are available here for reference).
Language: English
Target Participants:
Graduate students, early career researchers, such as medical physicists, clinical physicists, engineers, technologists, trainers and MDs.
Fee:
(Graduate students) Tuition fee 29,600 JPY (2 credits will be earned) + System usage fee 1,500 JPY
(Non-students) Free* (no credit earned)
*Non-student participants will be expected to serve as mentors to support participating students. As part of this role, they will be asked to give a presentation on their own research and work.
Fellowship:
This fellowship is intended to help offset the cost of HSI tuition (applicable to students only) and accommodation in Sapporo.
<Note>
・Successful applicants will receive an average Fellowship grant of JPY100,000 (with an additional JPY30,000 for students).
・Anyone can apply for the fellowship, but preference will be given to graduate students who apply through Hokkaido Summer Institute (HSI).
How to apply:
The application procedure varies between Hokkaido Summer Institute (HSI) for graduate students and GCB Summer School for early career researchers, such as medical physicists, clinical physicists, engineers, technologists, trainers, and MDs.
For graduate students, please apply from both GCB form and also HSI .
・GCB Application Period: by May 15, 5pm 2026(JST)
For HSI, you must submit your application during one of the following time periods.
For non-students, please apply from GCB form.
・GCB Application Period: by May 15, 2026 (JST)
<Note>
・We will have screenings for both participants and fellowship recipients.
・The screening results will be notified to applicants individually via email by the end of May 2026.
