【Report】The 12th GCB Biomedical Science and Engineering Symposium held successfully on August 17th 2025

The 12th GCB Biomedical Science and Engineering Symposium was held on August 17, 2025, at Hokkaido University in collaboration with Stanford University’s Department of Radiation Oncology. Conducted in a hybrid format, the event welcomed 161 participants from Japan and abroad, highlighting the Global Center for Biomedical Engineering’s international initiatives.
Under the theme “Excellence and Extension of Radiotherapy,” the morning session focused on theranostic radiopharmaceuticals, exploring the integration of diagnostics and therapeutics. The afternoon session addressed cardiac ablation using radiation therapy, introducing novel approaches for treating arrhythmias and discussing the potential of proton therapy.
The symposium featured a diverse lineup of speakers from academia, clinical institutions, and industry. Their presentations offered multidisciplinary insights bridging molecular imaging, radiopharmaceutical development, and advanced radiotherapy techniques.
Each session included active Q&A discussions, with young researchers and students contributing thoughtful perspectives. The event fostered vibrant interdisciplinary exchange and reaffirmed GCB’s commitment to advancing global collaboration and cultivating internationally capable professionals in biomedical science and engineering.
